The township Road Department is located at 11550 Valley View Road (adjacent to the township park). It is headed by Mr. Bill Cuprak, Road Superintendent, who administers the day-to-day operations while servicing 76 lane miles of roadway. The road department has four full-time employees and hires part-time seasonal labor during the summer months. The responsibility of the road department is to provide maintenance and repairs for all township roads including, but not limited to the following:

Snow and ice control on township road and at township owned buildings
Roadside ditching
Maintenance of existing drainage systems, including catch basin repair
Maintenance or all township highway systems
Installation and repair of all highway signs
Maintenance of all township grounds and buildings
Removal of dead animals in the township right of ways
Tree trimming in township right of ways
Cold and hot patching of roads
Berming and mowing of and around roads
Maintenance of road equipment
The Department is funded by the Township Road and Bridge Fund, state motor vehicle license tax and the state gasoline tax*.
* PLEASE NOTE:
When you purchase vehicle license plates, a portion of the fee
goes to your residential taxing district. Please remember to indicate
"SAGAMORE HILLS TOWNSHIP," not "NORTHFIELD" as your taxing district when renewing your license tags. This keeps a portion of
your tax dollars where you live and drive.

Snow Removal
The Service Department is responsible for snow and ice control on 38 miles of designated township roads (76 lane miles). State and county roads in the township are the responsibility of either the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) or the Summit County Engineer's Department (COSE) respectively. See the road list for county and state roads.
It requires the efforts of four people, four 5-ton dump trucks, and the consumption of fifty tons of salt to make one complete salting trip of our township. If snowplowing is required it takes several more hours to complete the job. It is the township's initial goal during snow emergencies to insure residents' access to emergency services, so two passes are made quickly to open up the middle of the roads and intersections to allow for emergency vehicles' access. As necessary, the crew then makes additional trips in order to push the snow back to the berms and/or curbs in order to open up the roads to their full width.
The township needs your help. Residents should not place obstructions, such as large rocks, metal or wooden stakes, etc., along the edge of the roadway and are urged to remove any impediments that present dangers to motorists. Property owners may be subject to liability in the event of an accident involving these obstructions. Residents should not park on the roads during snow events. When plowing your driveway, do not place the snow in the road. Snow should be directed to your own property and not placed on the roads or the property of others.

Please Keep Your Ditches Clear!
Sagamore Hills Township would like to remind township residents to keep ditches clear at all times.
Ditches, whether on private or township property, are a necessary component for drainage control.
Ohio Revised Code prohibits dumping in ditches at any time, including leaves in the Fall.
To Enclose Roadside Ditches
Residents who wish to enclose their roadside ditch must contact the Road Superintendent for an inspection prior the start of the project.
Driveway Culverts
Please contact the Road Department if you feel your driveway culvert should be replaced because it does not operate correctly. If, upon inspection, it is determined that the culvert should be replaced, the Sagamore Hills Township Service Department will perform the necessary replacement.
Tree / Shrub Trimming
Ohio Revised Code requires townships to ensure their roadways are safe for motorists. Therefore, each year the Service Department trims trees and shrubs within their right-of-ways to ensure proper sight distance for stop signs, speed limit signs, and other regulatory signs, as well as street name signs. It is not a requirement, but the Service Department will make an effort to notify residents before trimming begins.
